How to find college grants and scholarships.
Every high school senior and college student has heard that they can take part in the government grants programs. There are the college Pell grants, state grants, federal grants, and then you also have college scholarships and loans. The key to getting a grants it's by testing different products and companies, but rather just knowing how to do it yourself. Let's examine these in detail.
Let's get the basics out of the way, then we will get to the good stuff. First off are the Pell grants. These are given in sums starting around $500 and max out around $5,000. Depending on your financial status will primarily determine how much money you are eligible for. You can apply for these Pell grants every year, so long you meet the eligibility requirements. If you aren't eligible for these don't worry, there are many other options out there for you!
Not only does the federal government give out college grants and scholarships, but states as well provide their own unique funding opportunities. To take part in these government grants and college scholarship programs all you have to do is contact the financial aid office of the college or university and they will help you find the government and state funding you are able to apply for. Be sure to ask about their government loan opporunities as well. Even if you apply for a government grant you can still apply for as many other types of funding programs that you are eligible for! Also, before you visit the college financial aid office you should visit their website for financial aid information.

Another great place to find the rest of your government grants for school would be the Online Foundation Center. Don't laugh because you have to pay them a $10 fee until you read what they do. Basically, this is the most centralized database that we know of that will connect you to all of the other private college grants and scholarships that are out there. For instance, let's say Jane Doe decides to offer her own personal scholarships specifically for Iowa college art students. She doesn't do a lot of advertising, so the Online Foundation will find her manually, then add her to their database. The database also includes info on corporate grants and scholarships for college students, local business grants for students, and basically all the other hard to find grants and scholarships that your schools financial aid office is not able to find.
Stay away from government grants sales people claiming to be able to provide you grant services and products. Some of these companies are legit, but it will take you so long to find one that is reputable that by the time you find them you will be broke. For instance, the lastest con we have seen is one where the advertiser is selling a grant guide for the assumed one time price of $1.99. However, if you don't catch the small print, you will be rebilled automatically forever! Even if the grant guide is good, this is no way run a business.
One more thing before closing this report. If you really want the specifics of each federal program out there you can simply visit the CFDA website. There you will find such details / specifics such as the amount of money the program is giving away, who the money is for, what school or agency the funding is funneled through, etc. As a matter of fact, there are many government grant advertisers out there selling just this list!
